IMPROVE CURRICULUM TO DEVELOP PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Responsible choices among students reflect a commitment to their own education. Students who understand what tools are available to them to make good choices regarding their education, but more importantly why their education is so important to their future, are poised to be successful citizens in the future. Emphasizing the role that personal choices make in mental, emotional, and physical well-being is critical to emphasizing good education.

I will work with other members of the Board of Education to help improve student achievement through an emphasis on personal responsibility in our curriculum. Additionally, I will work with other members of the Board of Education to increase the opportunities for students to develop their mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

REQUIRE FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENTS FOR ALL NEW EXPENDITURES

The board is required to approve all budgetary matters. Currently, nothing requires that programs and policies approved by the board are evaluated for their potential cost to the taxpayers of District 300. The board risks creating another situation where they spend more money than revenue allows - or worse, another unnecessary tax referendum.

I will work with the other members of the Board of Education to develop a policy which requires that all new expenditures in any budget or budget amendment - including collective bargaining agreements - include a five year financial impact statement.

PROVIDE BETTER EDUCATION TO STUDENTS WITH LESS MONEY

Successful businesses have ways of managing their costs while still providing the highest quality products to customers. Methods using sound statistical and empirical evidence seek to constantly improve processes in the most efficient way possible. District 300 can, and should, constantly be asking how to provide higher quality education without spending too much taxpayer dollars.

I will work with the other members of the Board of Education to develop and implement policies that require the use of sound evidence for improving quality of services. Additionally, I will not vote for any policy or expenditure that does include such demonstrable evidence when it's needed.

What issues are important to you? I would like to know! The Board of Education is here to serve District 300, and what concerns you is a concern to me. Contact me, and I will be happy to speak with you in order to gain a better understanding of the issue at hand.
